News and Notes

Once again, sorry for the lack of updating lately... but this is mainly a running blog and I haven't been running!! (Oops...)

I am hoping to get back into it starting with the St. Patrick's Day Dash this Sunday - that has always been one of my favorite races!

Anyways, I figured I might as well update with other random notes!

- Thank goodness for sports - the Olympics and now March Madness have provided much-needed distractions right now!

- Taco (furkid) is settling in quite well - he is super friendly and affectionate and doesn't really seem shy at all! :)

- Work is still going well - there was a SWAT team standoff on the street this morning (a guy claiming to be a vampire and threatening that he had a bomb... yeah) - so it was a nice distraction to have everyone standing at the office windows with binoculars and video cameras on that side of the building for a while! Article (including pics and video):

Other news articles that I have found interesting lately:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/03/12/maternal.mortality/index.html?hpt=T1 - Deaths from pregnancy/childbirth in the US have DOUBLED in the last 20 years, especially among low income minorities... how sad that we have the resources for such advancement in the medical field and yet the rate of mortality in this vulnerable group is still going up instead of down!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_prom_date - School in Mississippi cancels prom so lesbian students can't attend. Good for her for filing suit against them - it's sad when institutions of education that should foster critical thinking and open mindedness are part of the discrimination. Can't imagine it will be much fun for either of those girls at school now unless they put the prom back on... it always saddens me how many people are so deeply concerned with the sexual lives and preferences of others.

Hopefully I will have more running-related news to report soon! Sheesh!
