I'm 24 and a graduate of the University of Washington. I have run 3 marathons, 11 half marathons, and 3 triathlons so far and am looking forward to more! I am currently working in accounting, and have just started learning how to knit! I also love hiking, camping, and being outside in nature in general, as well as sports, cooking, baking, and music!

Oh, and just for humor's sake...
Here is my bracket... I realize it is too small to see, but you can see all the red (ie incorrect) ;)

Madness!
Being such a big Husky basketball fan, I feel I would be a little remiss if I didn't at least write one blog entry about March Madness!
What a crazy first day... so many upsets and close games! Unfortunately, I picked all the wrong ones (with the exception of UW and OD), so my bracket is already screwed... but I don't care...
Huskies 80, Marquette 78! Huskies are moving on to the next round against 3 seed New Mexico on Saturday!!
I said after the UW-Cal game in the Pac 10 tourney that it was one of the best basketball games I've ever seen, but this one was soooooo good too! Dawgs got down by 15 in the second half (Marquette was shooting and making 3s left and right) and they battled back, and Quincy scored the winning basket with 1.7 seconds left. Still, that last pass and shoot by Marquette was FRIGHTENING - if anyone could make a buzzer beater, it'd be them... but luckily it hit the backboard. I think it took like 10 minutes after the game for my legs to stop shaking!!
Congrats to the Dawgs for fighting their way back in and finishing it off, and good luck to the Zags against Florida State tonight!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
In an attempt to appease St. Patrick after I forgot today was St. Patrick's Day (I know, I know, Irish person fail!!)...
I am watching The Hurt Locker after work with a few friends, but I will also make it my goal to consume at least a few green beers and a Guinness or two in order to further atone for my sins!
In other news:
I posted both of these pics on RW, but just in case - here is a picture of my new haircut, and another picture of furkid snuggled up on the couch with me!
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

St. Patrick's Day Dash race report
Background - I basically just ended up doing this race for fun, as I haven't really run in a week and a half (boo!) due to sickness.
The race - This was the first time I'd done the St. Patrick's Day Dash since it switched to it's new course, which is basically just an out and back on Highway 99. Not very scenic, but oh well - there were plenty of distractions running among 15,000ish people, many of whom were in interesting costumes (like the group of cute swimmer boys that were running in green and white speedos!). My brother ran in a green tux, and still ended up managing 7:09 miles, crazy!
The course was basically gradual uphill for the first 2 or so miles, and then back down to the finish line. I started off slow, but once we got to the hill, I just started chugging along, running faster and faster and passing tons of people. If there's one thing short legs are good for, it is going up hills!
I didn't have my watch on me, which was fine because I didn't see any mile markers anyways. It was more just a fun run with 15,000 other people. I felt pretty good until the last quarter mile, and then I just kicked it in to the finish anyways. My time ended up being 43-something, which averaged out to 11:20 pace. Definitely probably the slowest I've ever run the St. Pat's Dash, but I'm ok with it given I wasn't really pushing and am probably pretty out of shape right now. It felt good, though, and the weather was beautiful (sunny and 45ish), so hopefully I can start getting back in shape soon!

News and Notes
Once again, sorry for the lack of updating lately... but this is mainly a running blog and I haven't been running!! (Oops...)
I am hoping to get back into it starting with the St. Patrick's Day Dash this Sunday - that has always been one of my favorite races!
Anyways, I figured I might as well update with other random notes!
- Thank goodness for sports - the Olympics and now March Madness have provided much-needed distractions right now!
- Taco (furkid) is settling in quite well - he is super friendly and affectionate and doesn't really seem shy at all! :)
- Work is still going well - there was a SWAT team standoff on the street this morning (a guy claiming to be a vampire and threatening that he had a bomb... yeah) - so it was a nice distraction to have everyone standing at the office windows with binoculars and video cameras on that side of the building for a while! Article (including pics and video): http://www.king5.com/news/local/Third-Avenue-closed-by-police-activity-87474352.html
Other news articles that I have found interesting lately:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/03/12/maternal.mortality/index.html?hpt=T1 - Deaths from pregnancy/childbirth in the US have DOUBLED in the last 20 years, especially among low income minorities... how sad that we have the resources for such advancement in the medical field and yet the rate of mortality in this vulnerable group is still going up instead of down!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_prom_date - School in Mississippi cancels prom so lesbian students can't attend. Good for her for filing suit against them - it's sad when institutions of education that should foster critical thinking and open mindedness are part of the discrimination. Can't imagine it will be much fun for either of those girls at school now unless they put the prom back on... it always saddens me how many people are so deeply concerned with the sexual lives and preferences of others.
Hopefully I will have more running-related news to report soon! Sheesh!

Deep breaths
Sorry for the lag in posting for a while - as you all know I have been going through some rough personal issues. But I am taking deep breaths and taking one day/minute at a time right now, and I am tentatively ready to stick my toes back when it comes to blogging.
I also haven't been doing much running-wise, but hopefully progress there will be included in the baby steps I am taking in general. I did have an excellent 8.2 mile run on Saturday, which felt really good. This week has been quite busy so far, and looks to continue that way, and I've also been sick or not 100% healthy for the last... week and a half, so that hasn't helped either.
In the spirit of baby steps, I am just going to try planning running and working out one week at a time, or even one day at a time if I have to. Tonight, I need to do some laundry and some errands, and also Lost is on. However, I'd like to fit in a round with the yoga DVD and perhaps a short (2-3 mile run) while the laundry is going.
Tomorrow, I am going to attempt to wake up early enough to go for a swim before work. I am going to trivia after so I probably won't have time for too much then!
Also, just wanted to say thank you all for your support, advice, encouragement, and thoughts!
